As mentioned below, it was Melvyn Douglas who replaced Muni when he had to leave the show for emergency eye surgery. Some months later, Muni returned. Near the end of the run, Begley replaced Muni. Douglas also did the tour, and several years later a Hallmark Hall of Fame television production with Begley back in his original role.
